Blacksburg, VA
Who is Modea?

We are a technology consultancy working with healthcare marketing teams to dramatically improve and enhance the digital patient experience. We fundamentally believe that digital tools should provide better control, transparency, and choice for healthcare consumers. Here are a few ways to get to know our work in healthcare:

What does a Software Engineer do at Modea?
We are digital consultants first, and our software engineers assume this same mentality in all aspects of their work. We tackle client projects as cross-functional teams made up of software engineers, UX/UI designers, project managers, strategists and analysts. These teams work very closely with each other and the client to architect and build awesome, consumer-grade experiences.

Job Summary:
Are you eager to learn about the world of digital? Are you proactive and motivated to prepare for a career in web and application development? If this sounds like you, then explore your passions and discover new ones by getting involved as an intern at Modea. We are currently looking for someone interested in joining our team as a Software Engineering Intern for the fall of 2020. The right person for this role is pursuing a career in computer science or a related field and is a strong communicator. This is a part-time position located at our headquarters in Blacksburg, VA. Hours are negotiable and can be scheduled around class time.

Here are a few specific things you would get to experience as a Software Engineer Intern at Modea:
  • Full-stack Web Developer - Our software engineers are required to be efficient at both front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, client side frameworks like React and Angular), back-end development (Database, CMS, API), and everything in between.  We often build on top of content management systems like Drupal, WordPress, Sitecore, Episerver, and others CMSs.
  • Mobile Application Developer - Not only do we build great web applications, but we also deliver mobile apps for our clients to run on multiple mobile platforms. Mobile app development does not constitute a large majority of our projects, but our engineers have plenty of experience in this realm.
  • Technology Agnostic - This is a dangerous term, but we develop in a variety of technologies, so we focus more on the software engineering acumen and ability to solve problems with the right technology. Having said that, we frequently build solutions in technologies such as .NET, PHP, JavaScript, and JavaScript frameworks. This also means we need to stay current on new technologies and understand when and how to use the right one.
  • Software Engineering Best Practices - We pride ourselves on delivering quality software solutions, and we rely on following good software engineering best practices. We are looking for someone who will champion this in every aspect of development and delivery of our work. Be prepared to share what all this encompasses for you and how to build software the right way.
